An Experiment of Reconnection and Self-Criticism

Time to open our eyes and act with purpose.

Do you wonder where you fit in this new world of information? How to balance health and wealth? Do you challenge your current status quo?

Recently I’ve been experimenting with a new form of interaction on my current lifestyle. I have taken my exercise routine to a remote environment. This attempt opened my eyes to challenges and understandings on a healthy lifestyle.

My partner and I took a trip through the coast of Bahia. Within our main objectives with this trip were:

  • Change of environment due to the Covid-19 situation.
  • Peace of mind.
  • Challenge our ability to be work-productive anywhere.
  • Challenge our ability to maintain consistency in our training regimes.

The trip was nowhere near what we expected it to be, both in a good and in a bad way. While our work schedules were in constant change, we understood what are the basic needs for us to perform well. A few aspects of our trip froze our ability to be productive, while other aspects opened doors into the future.

We are currently living in a society that does not motivate us to create and to experiment. With constant surveillance from social media and governments, this reality screams in our face the urgency to be in communication with nature and with primitive aspects of what it means to be human. Pulling the context to my profession, we invariably see a spike in syndromes that affect the psyche and the body. Obesity, Anxiety, and Depression are sadly at an all-time high. We are the supporting actors in our own lives. The term “Living life on purpose” has never been so crucial as it is today. Technology is making the decisions in our lives, and it only looks like it will intensify.

In previous articles, I raised awareness for people to live their lives on purpose, to exercise consistency and discipline. This is what we have been doing for the last couple of years. Please understand that the challenges of being healthy and feeling pretty, are not excluded from us Exercise Professionals. We face the same difficulties, we are influenced by ruthless media the same way as other Humans.

Where am I trying to get here?

The choice of becoming healthier, or losing weight, are choices that you make on a long-term basis. The change needs to be in the roots of how you live. Is it easy? No, it isn’t. I, Andre, struggle with it every day. But that’s exactly what I do, I face it every day.

I will write this again.

“If nothing changes, nothing changes”.

This statement serves in two categories.

Externally: Be the change you seek in other people.

Internally: To feel the results you seek in your life, YOU need to change how you live it.

The beauty of being healthy is, you can’t delegate your health to anyone else. You are and will always be the biggest responsible for your successes when it comes to health. The sooner we understand this, the sooner we start acting and not waiting for external factors to work miracles on us.

This experiment taught us to understand that we can make it impossible to maintain health during a long trip, absorbing all the difficulties, and making dozens of excuses. It also taught us to understand that it is perfectly possible to maintain health, to overcome small challenges, and to replace the justifications for solutions.

Now I ask you to think critically, do you truly accept responsibility for not succeeding in a given endeavor, or do you blame an external factor? Tell me, how do you approach your challenges? How do you see technology unfolding upon us?

Strength to you!
